Scottish Rite Master Craftsman Program

The Scottish Rite Master Craftsman (SRMC) program is an exciting, correspondence course designed and administered by staff at the House of the Temple in Washington, DC, under the guidance and leadership of the Supreme Council, 33°, of the A&A Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, USA.
All three courses are available as mail-in courses, but new for Summer 2020, the Ritual & History Program is available online! Those three courses and a Group Studies program constitute the SRMC. While a Scottish Rite, SJ, member may use Group Studies program at any time, the three courses are meant to be taken in the following order:
- Master Craftsman: Symbolic Lodge will familiarize students with aspects of the development of Blue Lodge Masonry and explore some of its developing symbolism. This will reveal that the “High Degrees” began to develop soon after formation of the Premier Grand Lodge (1717). Albert Pike’s book, Esoterika: The Symbolism of the Blue Degrees of Freemasonry, and an excerpt from Arturo de Hoyos’s Scottish Rite Ritual Monitor & Guide (3d ed.) will be used to demonstrate a rational and philosophical interpretation for much of what is found in Craft Masonry.
- Required Reading: Albert Pike’s book, Esoterika: The Symbolism of the Blue Degrees of Freemasonry, which can be purchased as part of the quiz and text book package. An excerpt from Arturo de Hoyos’s Scottish Rite Ritual Monitor & Guide (3d ed.) is also used however is NOT sold with the course. - Ways to Purchase the Program: The course is available online OR as a mail-in correspondence course. The course may be purchased with or without the required textbook Albert Pike’s Esoterika. Quizzes & Esoterika- $60, Quizzes ONLY- $40.
- Course Completion: All students who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion and a lapel pin. Students who are members of the Southern Jurisdiction will be presented these at a Valley meeting.

- Master Craftsman: Scottish Rite History & Ritual familiarizes students with the basic structure of the Scottish Rite as well as aspects of the rituals and symbols of the twenty-nine degrees (4°–32°) and honors of the Scottish Rite. Consisting of 6 lessons, it utilizes The Scottish Rite Ritual Monitor & Guide, third edition, by Arturo de Hoyos and A Bridge to Light, 4th edition, by Rex Hutchens as its textbooks.
- Required Reading: Arturo de Hoyos’s Scottish Rite Ritual Monitor & Guide, third edition, which can be purchased as part of the quiz and text book package. The course also requires A Bridge To Light, 4th edition by Rex Hutchens which can be purchased separately and is NOT sold as part of the quiz & textbook package.
- Ways to Purchase the Program: The course is available online OR as a mail-in correspondence course. - Master Craftsman: Scottish Rite Philosophy uses Albert Pike’s Morals & Dogma, Annotated Edition, by Arturo de Hoyos, 33°, Grand Cross and returns to the ritual of the Scottish Rite to re-explore it on a deeper level, by looking for the moral lesson imparted in each degree and then applying that lesson to one’s everyday life. The course consists of 33 quizzes, grouped into 10 sections.
- Required Reading: Albert Pike’s Morals & Dogma, Annotated Edition, by Arturo de Hoyos, 33°, Grand Cross, which can be purchased as part of the quiz & textbook package.
- Ways to Purchase the Program: The course is only available as a mail-in correspondence course. The course may be purchased with or without the required textbook Albert Pike’s Morals & Dogma, Annotated Edition, by Arturo de Hoyos, 33°, Grand Cross.
